Holland Adventures

When to go: Mid April to early May when the Tulips are in full bloom.

Where to stay:  We stayed at an airport hotel the first day to get a nap before heading out to Keukenhof.  For the next two days we stayed at a beautiful hotel in the city center called Park Hotel.

What to do: 3 Days in Amsterdam, here are the top things to do:  Keukenhof Tulip Gardens (lat March to mid-May), Rijksmuseum, Anne Frank House, Van Gogh Museum,  The Jordaan neighborhood, Vondelpark,  Moco Museum, Bike Tour, Canal Tour, Rembrandt House.

Keukenhof Tulip Festival and Gardens

This is a must-do. There are very convenient tours directly from Schiphol airport.

Bike Tour

We booked the  Cheese, Clogs & Windmill Countryside Bike Tour by Joy Ride Tours.  This was a highlight of Holland as we learned about polders and dikes, living in houseboats, and experienced Amsterdam alongside the bicycle commuters to work, kids en route to soccer practice, and occasional tourists.

City Sites

The Rijksmuseum is magnificent and takes most of a day to tour; we also recommend the Van Gogh museum.  We did not tour inside the Anne Frank House because the lines to get in are very long

Canal Boat Tour

We recommend taking a canal boat trip one hour before dusk to enjoy  the lighting of bridges and canals.
