Welcome to Kauai
When to go: The best time to visit Kauai is between the months of April and May or from September thru November when temperatures are cooler and rates are lower.
Where to stay: If you are going with a VRBO or Airbnb for accomodations, many rentals are not air conditioned so check before you book. If you are looking to save a little money there is a Costco within a short distance from the airport. We decided to rent a home next to Lamonts Grand Hyatt. The Hyatt is a beautiful hotel and sits on Shipwreck Beach at the south end of the island. From here you are an hour and 15 minute drive to Waimea Canyon and Koke'e State Park. On our next visit we plan on staying near Princeville to explore the north end of the island.

What to do: The hiking trails in Kauai are some of the most beautiful in all of the world. The Napali coast hike was our favorite. We would give it an "easy" level of difficulty, however, those who are more adventurous can continue beyond the beach for the extended hike that goes all the way to the waterfalls. Pack in your snorkeling gear for a refreshing swim and sea life exploration. Waimea Canyon, also known as the Grand Canyon of Hawaii, is a great hike, but we would not recommend it for families with young children because of the lack of guard rails on the cliffs. The Spouting Horn geyser is worth a stop and of course there are no lack of beaches for volleyball, surfing and swimming fun.
