Welcome to Milford Sound New Zealand!
When to go: late November/early December which is in between the rainy season and before the temperatures get too high. This was a 30th wedding anniversary trip for us which made it extra special. The choice to experience New Zealand and Milford sound was perfect.

Where to stay: We stayed at the Milford Sound Lodge which is pricey but very much worth the money. The rooms feel more like townhomes. They have beautiful views of the river and mountain beyond thru full-length windows.

What to do: 2 days in Milford Sound
We rented a car in Queenstown and drove to Milford Sound on an early morning so as to avoid the bus traffic. We hiked Summit Peak (4 hrs) and Maggie's Creek before checking in for our overnight cruise on the sound.

Just what we needed!
Lake Marian is just off the main road. This is a must stop and about a 20 minute walk in!
Key Summit hike is another amazing hike with breath taking views!
The following 6 pictures highlight the raw nature of the Sound. Believe it or not you want it to rain while you are here. With the rain, the mountains come to life with hundreds of waterfalls streaming into the Sound. The kayak trip off the cruise boat was amazing and so were the people we met on board. Don't miss this overnight adventure.
We can't say enough about the stunning mountain views and the experience of the rushing river outside your cabin at the Milford Sound Lodge. One tip to note is that their restaurant menu is limited, so bring plenty of snacks and a few bottles of wine. Believe me, once you settle in with a glass of wine on your porch, you will never want to leave.
