Where to go? There is a lot to consider when choosing your next vacation destination. Things like cost, transportation, lodging, what to see, when to go, is the area safe, what to bring, are there a language barriers? All of these things come to mind. With over 60 years of travel experience between us, we have found the key to a successful vacation is being centrally located and within walking distance to the things you plan on visiting not only during the day, but also at night.

In Queenstown, New Zealand, we stayed within walking distance of the waterfront and downtown area where restaurants, shops and public transportation were very accessible. We enjoy walking vs taking a bus or subway. Many cities have great transportation systems so staying near a subway station is an option for quicker access to spread out attractions in a city like Washington D.C. The second factor on where to stay is the nightlife. Many cities come to life at night. Rome is one example where monuments are lit up at night, giving them and the area new life. Entertainers flock to the streets near fountains and the Pantheon area adding to the attraction. Remember at the end of the day it is nice to be able to pop out of your hotel room for a quick drink, food or people watching.
